A Powerpoint presentation has been de rigueur in the modern business environment for the better part of at the very least two decades, and with the wholescale usage of business management procedures by the military ever since McNamara introduced it at the time of the Vietnam War, just about every United States Army briefing has included one. But has the time of Powerpoint finally come and gone?
Officers’ journals aren’t typically platforms for social advocacy, even within the self-contained world of the military, but hints of frustration with Microsoft’s ubiquitous product peeps on the occasional essay every once in awhile . The software is of particular disappointment for a lot of senior enlisted personnel that are often tasked with preparing slide shows using it, as well as the junior commissioned ranks that usually give the presentations proper. Powerpoint jokes are a part of staff duty life, and vie with laughter about the newly minted lieutenant in the wider Army.
In a very affectionate nod to Powerpoint presentations everywhere, “Powerpoint Ranger” tabs are offered from enterprising pranksters which are modeled after the Ranger Tab, “the coveted black and gold” qualification of the U.S. Army. The Ranger Tab is awarded to those who finish a searing three-month program in elite light infantry skills full of meal less days and sleepless nights. Unsurprisingly, Powerpoint Ranger tabs are awarded for individuals who complete the equally unpleasant weeks or months associated with such presentations.
But the revolt against Powerpoint is not any joke, with a lot of of the newer generation of officers, commissioned and non-commissioned both, having little patience for antiseptic slide shows when confronted with on-going combat, war they have experienced first-hand. Must seemingly every briefing be carried out in Powerpoint? they wonder. Whatever its virtues in business school, these presentations are more and more being regarding by serving veterans as something of a deterrent to clear communications.

Wine racks could make fantastic wedding gifts. Naturally, the lucky couple is probably already receiving multiple sets of wine glasses – but not a lot of people think of the wine holders to match them! And with numerous styles to pick from, it’s almost certain that one will be found that suits the newlyweds’ sense of taste while meeting more practical needs.
A variety of constructions are available that offer radically different designs. Wooden wine racks are traditional and held by some to help with the aroma, but those made of other materials can offer styles unachievable otherwise. For instance, nothing beats the flowing, almost liquid, curves that metal makes possible.
They are harder to make compared to those of wood, for the obvious reasons, however it is also just these natural characteristics of metal that allows for shapes that will be impossible to render in wood. Wrought iron is particularly popular, and one of the reasons is that it can be designed to seem very “heavy,” in the sense of “gravitas,” lending the wines held a sense of tradition, authority, and blue-blooded excellence. Indeed, as a result of very characteristics of iron, it is favored in making the most innovative shapes and designs.
Metal racks are generally used for short-term storage only, however, with many present in kitchens only to match the stainless steel décors. But of course, aesthetics is a prime reason for such racks to begin with , with proud collectors pleased to showcase their finest bottles in a casual though tasteful way.
Besides decorative purposes, another reason why wines are racked is simply because even a small motley collection needs to be organized. These holders also offer more protection than being left out on the table, especially in the case of those quirky designs that hold no more than one single bottle!

Wine is an alcoholic beverage with a rich history that dates back over eight thousand years to the heart of Eurasia, modern-day Georgia. It is usually made of fruits, and in particular grapes, however many other things that can be fermented have been used as well, for example grains, vegetables, as well as the milk of different species of livestock.
However, for many an oenophile, or wine connoisseur, only grapes will do, as barley and vegetable wines are much more similar to beer and spirits. It’s not just a matter of semantics, either, as in many countries wines are subject to legal definitions and regulations. Indeed, depending on the jurisdicition involved, there may be several laws that govern exactly what is allowed to be sold as wine, though across the industry worldwide a distinction may well be made between so-called “real” wine and that which happens to be merely labeled so.
Thus, the term is considered to be used as an adjective rather than a noun in the case of something such as the rice and sorghum wines so popular in Asia, made as they are from starch-based grains which render them more like beer than anything else. Used as an adjective, the term refers to the higher alcoholic content as opposed to the production process, an important part of which concerns the appropriate ingredients. Actually, the word “wine” is believed by scholars to originate from the Proto-Indo-European word for “grape!”
Though such fine differences might seem trivial to an outsider, they form some of the reasons for wine’s enduring interest among oenophiles. And thanks to the internet, wine-lovers have started and coalesced around blogs dedicated to all the many different details possible, especially with regards to particular wine-cultivating regions. If anything, then, it appears further differentiation is to be expected, and even encouraged, making the field more varied and ever richer!

No matter the state of the economy, you can bet that educational toys will be among any holiday shopping season’s bestsellers. New ones come out every year that purport to capitalize on the latest in research findings that concern early childhood development, and well-meaning parents pull out the pocketbooks as if on cue. However what is it that makes a toy an educational one?
All things considered, children learn naturally – in fact, they cannot help but learn; their minds do nothing but learn. This suggests that for a very young child, everything could be an educational toy. And so it is, though some toys are more educational than others. Thus, taking a look at educational toys, it comes down to what offers the most bang for the buck.
However take into account also the following: Lego building blocks would be the classic example of an educational toy, however they are for rather young kids, while something like robot kits or perhaps chemistry sets will serve the same purpose for older kids, though only of a certain inclination. And here lies one of the interesting though often overlooked areas of educational toys, their specificity and lack of the same.
Scour the market and you will find that offerings under this category tend to be designed for the very young. This is because with maturation comes increased individualization in tastes and interests, not to mention the capability to learn on one’s own (and, not so coincidentally, formal schooling!). Therefore toy manufacturers, like every business, aim for the largest market possible. This is a big reason for why so many of these toys seem so similar. Yet for all the obvious similarity, companies do exist that try tofocus on niche markets. Among many parents there is a “back-to-basics” preference which has lead to the mass re-emergence of old-fashioned wooden fare.

When it comes to wedding favors, a variety of options exist for the thoughtful couple to express their appreciation. After all, if it wasn’t for all those guests, the special day would probably become a little less special and a lot less fun. Providing wedding favors is definitely an ancient tradition for many cultures, and nothing says “thank you” like a gift given at a moment of great celebration. But presenting such souvenirs could be a challenge for a few very conscientitious couples who stress over details, plus in today’s modern society it can be hard to really know what will please people.
Since the whole point of wedding favors is always to commemorate the occasion, it makes sense how the bride and groom should choose to give out that which they themselves find appropriate. Yet most are very kind in being especially considerate of their guests’ tastes, in particular when those guests have helped to contribute to the festivities, such as in the form of a semi-optional “door charge” in certain cultures.
These kinds of gifts should, ideally, be both useful and elegant, which is a tall order to fill under virtually any circumstances but which becomes particularly challenging within a matrimonial context. Scented candles and specialty soaps are traditional favorites, as are personalized photographs of the couple or the wedding party as a group, but fortunately a much wider selection of items now exist which can be given on such an occasion. Particular special gifts are reserved for bridesmaids and groomsmen, but ultimately the idea is to share the love with friends and family. The offering of gifts help cement the couple into one another’s social circles even as they commit their lives to one another. It is almost certain that few things could be given in the proper spirit on this occasion and not be remembered likewise.

In sync with the growth of cellular phones over the past thirty years have been the cellular networks that give them their name, despite the fact that there have been many concerns regarding cell phone networks – from coverage and service to unlocked cell phones and contracts – not enough people understand exactly what a cell phone network is, or how it operates. Excluding individuals with unlocked cell phones, anyone using a mobile device most likely has a contract with a cell phone service provider, big companies like Verizon or AT&T being the two largest providers. What a cell phone user is essentially paying for with their contract to these providers is the use of the cellular network they have established across the country – and abroad.
The network itself is just a network of fixed location transceivers often known as cell sites or base stations situated at fixed geographical locations over a wide area. The range associated with an individual base station at which a cell phone can reliably connect varies depending on several factors, such as the size and power of the station, along with geographical features and other environmental factors. The range of each tower comprises what is referred to as a cell.
Therefore, a cellular network is really a series of strategically positioned towers whose overlapping range of coverage is knit together, so that as long as a user is within range of at least one tower, they can get connected to the network and maintain a signal, even if moving between various cells. Verizon and AT&T have both managed to erect a cellular network that covers about 95% of the population within the continental US.
Once connected to the network, a signal or call could be forwarded to any other device that has been programmed (through a service provider contract) to the network. Moreover, cellphone signals received by cell sites may also be run from the cell tower through hard lines to reach standard telephones wired into a building or home.
Whenever a cell phone is purchased along with a cellular service provider, the device is automatically programmed for use with that company’s cellular network. For example, iPhone users are contracted to AT&T, and so all their calls are routed through AT&Ts network of base stations and cell sites. Unlocked cell phones are phones which have not been pre-programmed for any particular network, allowing users to pick whichever cellular network works best for them.
This can be based on several factors unique to each company’s contract and terms of services, as pertains to the user’s needs and financial capabilities. However, the geographical solidarity of the cell network is arguably more important, depending on where the user lives. In some, more remote parts of the country, not all service providers have any installations physically situated nearby, and therefore lack coverage.

Once your typical red-blooded American thinks of repairing water damaging, they shudder and just remember the hours they invested that one time toiling over a bucket they dug out of the tool shed hauling plenty of murky brown water out of the basement after that one really bad storm. Then they sigh and down the rest of their pint lamenting the grand battle of that afternoon. Their initiatives though pale in comparison to the undeniable master of flood damage restoration: the biblical Noah.
One other issue is removing mold but let’s follow the topic of course. While you complain about trashing a good pair of Nikes to pump the water out of the dank rumpus room your wife lets you keep in the basement, Noah was singlehandedly building a mammoth wooden Ark with his bare hands. And that was the first of his challenges.
Just contemplate for a couple seconds the conversation between God and Noah that kicked off those wacky antics, and already Noah puts your initiatives at flood damage restoration to miserable shame. God, having completely had it up to here with mankind always smoking dope, punching kittens, and worshipping three headed spider Gods, or whatever else they were doing, determined to crumple up that mistake and sink a three pointer from half court with it. Therefore he says to Noah something like, “Yo, I don’t have the time to get into it, but I’m totally going to submerge the earth beneath an apocalyptic deluge. I saw the way you pumped the water out of that rumpus room last spring and, ye, truly you are the Master of Water Damage Restoration. So first, I’m gunna need you to construct an Ark. Then, I’m gunna need you to put on it two of every animal, so they can repopulate themselves, because animals are awesome.”
And Noah said something like: “…every animal?”
According to the bible, that’s exactly what he did. So maybe your puny efforts in water damage restoration weren’t ready to save your Spoons of the World collection from getting all wrecked. That’s worth a complaint or two. But try trekking 4,000 miles to the heart of a Godless subarctic wasteland and singlehandedly wrangling a 500lb flesh eating Siberian Tiger and hauling this horrific brute all the way back and then coercing into a leaky wooden boat. Then once you’re finished: do it again. That’s one pair of animals down. Only… millions more to go. And it hasn’t even started to rain yet!
So it begins to rain for 40 days, and the earth floods for another 150 more, which is bad enough as it is when you’re not cooped up on a boat with the entire world’s variety of nightmarish predatory beasts. Then he parks his huge floating house of animal disasters on top of a mountain and waits for the flood waters to recede, as per God’s plan. And when he’s done, he presumably puts all the animals back where he found them (simply because I can’t imagine letting all the world’s animals out at once into a gigantic mosh pit of Discovery Channel brand bedlam could perhaps be pretty). And when all is said and done, the entire Earth is repopulated. Now that’s flood damage restoration.

It probably sounds crazy, but yes, there are such things as electronic cigarettes – and they’re becoming ever more popular; so much so that in another two or three years it will be crazy not to have heard of them! The Electronic Cigarette Association, a recently formed trade group to represent industry interests, estimates that there are around four hundred thousand users worldwide.
As if it didn’t sound funny enough, however, electronic cigarettes are even available in a wide variety of flavors. Yes, it’s no joke – after years of tobacco advertising touting the likes of Virginia Slims and Newport Lights for their superior “taste,” smokers can finally choose from a range of real flavors, from chocolate and cherry to coffee and banana split!
That’s right, banana split. It’s incredible but true – no longer will smokers have to stick with traditional tobacco or menthol (which are, of course, still available for purchase as well) but they now have a field of flavors even broader than that enjoyed by pipe-smokers to choose from!
No big deal? Of course, with such things as fish-flavored ice cream and soda that tastes like bacon having been invented, perhaps unusual cigarette flavors are not so surprising. But how about this: with an electronic cigarette, it’s possible to smoke without carcinogens or even nicotine for the first time in history! No, really, it’s all true: the flavored solution used by these products to produce the “smoke” (vapor) do not have to contain any nicotine whatsoever. These solutions are also available with varying amounts of the chemical, allowing users to choose the level of exposure for themselves! In fact, it is precisely on account of this ability to choose that the devices have been marketed as smoking cessation aids.
What will they think of next!

Establishments like Lafnac Digital Computers frequently sell more than just computers. They generally offer other items, for instance cameras and cell phones. It really has been this way since computer technology started to be implemented into everything. Then it had been “electronics” and no longer “just” a camera or telephone anymore.
Many of these stores are landmarks in the neighborhood. Not in any official sense, for instance being recognized by the city as such, but longtime residents, even people who have never patronized them, will usually make reference to them when, for example, giving directions.
In that regard, such stores are just as much a character by themselves as any citizen from the city. Lafnac, for example, is situated right in the heart of Manhattan, just blocks from world-famous Times Square and its Great White Way. Much like the local Sam Ash or, once upon a time , Tower Records, a store like Lafnac has seen changes come and go.

A loan calculator is among the most popular of widgets offered on the web. Based on search engines like Google, it is among the top keywords being typed in by surfers all over the world. It’s also among the very first applications available on the internet, helping make what was then still a mostly academic network much more relevant to the everyday concerns of most people.
From auto loans to home mortgages, there is a loan calculator online somewhere which will help calculate likely results based on personal criteria such as income and credit rating. These widgets or mini-applications are also highly popular textbook exercises in computer programming courses.
Besides loan calculators, you can find calculators for taxes and calculators for calories burned – essentially, anything that needs figuring out, there’s been a calculator programmed to do it. One of the most popular is a currency calculator, perhaps more properly referred to as a currency converter. One other is the distance calculator, typically utilizing something else like Google Maps.
But why would anyone take the time creating such software, easy as they may be to create? Especially considering that hosting these calculators cost money, regardless if only twenty dollars or so a month for the website. We may use an online loan calculator, but exactly what does the person providing such a utility get?
In many cases, these kinds of sites are supported entirely by advertising. Oftentimes they are launced by webpreneurs – entrepreneurs who make money off the web – in the hope of attracting enough “eyeballs” in order to sell advertising space.
As mentioned at the outset, home and auto loan calculators are one of the most popular searches online, that means that there are tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people searching to use them every day – advertising dollars to the fortunate owners of the most popular websites hosting such calculators!
